About Scott Lake

My main claim to fame is that I am a co-founder and CEO of Shopify.com. Aside from Shopify, I am now doing quite a bit of social media consulting. I am addicted to figuring out cool and innovative ways that social media can help companies grow. Since getting into high tech, I’ve co-founded two startups and worked at a third. These days I’m super passionate about the Ottawa startup scene and run a blog called StartupOttawa.com. In my past lives, I’ve been a bike messenger, a university lecturer and a professional driver at NATO HQ in Belgium. I’m also into snowboarding, canoeing, iyengar yoga and ultimate frisbee. I’m also a published writer (zzzz), an exhibited artist and have a PhD in Political Science.

• What is your favorite journey?
  My favorite journey is from downtown ottaw.a to my hammock at my house in the woods in Chelsea, Quebec

• What do you consider your greatest achievement?
  Convicing my wife to marry is my greatest achievement. Finishing my PhD is a close second.

• Who are your favorite authors?
  Wayne Johnston is my favorite author.

• What are your favorite bands?
  My current favorite bands are the Jetplanes of Abraham, Coldplay, Smog, Basic Channel, Deathcab and Elliot Smith.

• Who are your greatest heroes, real or fictional?
  My greatest hero hands down is Terry Fox.
